Episode 51: Caring for Yourself and Others February 2023 A brand new episode of the ERS Linkage Podcast is here! Join Hosts Bryan Reynolds and Kristin Davenport for Episode 51. We'll hear from Anne Wilson, a longtime resident of Deupree House, who talks about her commitment to her fitness routines and maintaining social connections, which research has found contribute significantly to brain health. President and CEO Laura Lamb also talks about the importance of caring for yourself and ERS' We Can Do Better initiative. On self-care, one tip she offers is the importance of sharing your goals with people who will hold you accountable for striving to meet those goals. She also keeps a checklist for every day of the week that holds her accountable to herself in doing what's necessary to meet her goals. About the We Can Do Better effort, she discusses several areas of focus for this year. They include continuing to diversify ERS' leadership; offering We Can Do Better programming to residents; continuing to raise money for the Lauren Brown Empowerment Fund, which helps ERS team members of color break through barriers that could slow them in advancing their careers, and sharing the organization's experiences and resources with others who want to move forward with similar initiatives. And finally, we hear from Wellness Director Chloe Hough, who led ERS' Heart Month programs for both residents and team members, emphasizing the importance of women's heart health. She learned years ago from her mother's heart troubles that heart attacks and strokes aren't something only men experience. They're the leading killer of women. She encouraged ERS team members to wear red on Feb. 3, Go Red Day, to emphasize that fact, and she has some tips for how you can care for your heart at any age. |
